Benjamin's Kitchen
758 Heidelberg Road, Alphington, Melbourne, VIC

I love lazy weekends, especially lazy Sundays. Sundays are still weekends, after all, but there's just something about the weekend coming to a close that makes you want to enjoy it more. This particular Sunday was spent lunchin' with the family at Benjamin's Kitchen in Alphington.

I couldn't count how many times we tried (and failed) to book a table for dinner at Benjamin's Kitchen since they opened. It was the menu that got me - a classic yet with a twist take on Asian food, and the heavenly, cool-to-the-eyes decor. Call me biased but I'm always a fan of white and hues of blue. We finally managed to book a table for lunch and everyone was excited to give the cafe a try.

The cafe just opened when we arrived, so most tables were empty and it gave us a relaxed feel, completing our "lazy Sunday" vibe. It gave way for good photos and nice conversations too!The service was good, the staff was pleasant and courteous - which is definitely a huge plus in my books. The food didn't disappoint, either. I have been missing cereal prawns and their Breakfast Squid definitely hit the spot - same "cereal prawn" taste,  except with squid. No complaints, since I love my seafood! The rest of the food didn't disappoint, the pork belly and rump steak slices were good as well. Their take on the pad thai is a welcome change as well. The food was certainly more on the Asian fusion side, but we loved their take on it.  The food is definitely for sharing, and it was reasonably-priced. The only thing I could fault was the spring rolls - I wish they had it in pork instead of vegetarian! :)

The coffee lovers (B and J) got their usual mocha and flat white orders and they loved their coffee too. Overall, it was a really pleasant dining experience, and it was "child-friendly" considering we had an infant and a toddler in tow. Will certainly be adding Benjamin's Kitchen to the list of my fave Melbourne restaurants! :)
