Foodie: When in Phillip Island

Thursday, January 14, 2016tee

When up and about, the food is something I take seriously when plotting the itinerary. This trip to Phillip Island was no exception, as I was happy we were able to manage to knock a few cafes/restaurants off my list during the trip.

CHURCHILL ISLAND CAFE

With Churchill Island and the farm as the backdrop, this is a perfect place to enjoy a leisurely brunch/lunch/tea with family/friends. It was perfect to visit the place as it was sunny and warm. It was in a good location - secluded island, a farm, surrounded with animals. The cafe is kid/family-friendly, too.  The menu was standard cafe food, nothing too fancy or extraordinary. We had cafe food - calamari, fish and chips, burger. It would have nice to have more options rather than have an all-day breakfast menu. We felt that the staff who served us was a bit of standoffish/unfriendly, which put us off a bit.

THE WATERMARK @ SILVERWATER RESORT

It's been way too long since we had a dinner out, especially a dinner date. It's always lunch-outs or takeaway dinners at home. During my itinerary planning, I suggested to the sister that we take turns babysitting the kids so we could go out and have a proper date out. For our night out, J and I decided to go for the resort's restaurant. Because we had a baby to tuck into bed, we didn't make any prior reservations. When we arrived, the restaurant was not full, but it took us about 5 minutes to get a seat. Reservations are recommended, especially when in a bigger crowd and on a busy night. The restaurant was not too big, it felt cozy and intimate, and it was nice to enjoy the view outside. I had the beef brisket, and J had the fish of the day - swordfish, if I recall. The food was nice - we enjoyed our meal! If we weren't too full, we would've ordered desserts. The service was good and attentive which is a definite plus. Overall, it was a good experience and I couldn't fault the restaurant. J and I had a wonderful night out and we capped it off with wine and a lesson of table tennis at the entertainment room (he taught me, of course).

RUSTY WATER BREWERY AND BAR

This restaurant bar was originally on my list for dinner night, but since we were on the way to the Noobies, we decided to drop by. It was a good experience, and the food was lovely. We had steak and chicken parmagiana to share. J had ale and says he liked it too. Surprisingly, it was a family-friendly establishment too, they provide kids with colouring materials so they won't get antsy and bored. The staff was friendly, attentive and nice too.
